SAFFORD, AZ – The Safford Police Department’s annual Angel Tree Program is officially underway, and the department is calling on the generosity of the Gila Valley community to help make Christmas brighter for local children and families experiencing financial hardship.
This year, 69 families representing 174 children have been identified through the program as needing assistance during the holiday season. With the family nomination period now closed, the program has entered its gift-fulfillment phase, inviting community members, businesses, and organizations to adopt families and help make their Christmas wishes come true.
As of November 4, seven families have been adopted, leaving 62 families still awaiting sponsors. Recognizing the growing need for holiday assistance and the significant coordination involved in a program of this size, the Saff rd Police Department began accepting nominations earlier than usual this year. The additional time allows for family adoptions, gift collection, and preparation to ensure gifts are ready for distribution before Christmas.
Community members wishing to participate can adopt a family in three simple steps:
1 Select a Family: Visit the Safford Police Department at 523 W. 10th Avenue in Safford to select a family to sponsor.
2 Fulfill Their Wishes: Purchase the requested Christmas gifts for the selected family.
3 Return Gifts: Deliver all gifts unwrapped to the Safford Police Department by December 1, 2026. Earlier returns are greatly appreciated and allow additional time for gift preparation.
In addition to family sponsorships, the department is accepting donations of wrapping paper, tape, and large gift bags to assist with preparing gifts for distribution. Community wrapping parties will also provide opportunities for volunteers to come together and help bring the program to completion.
Beyond providing Christmas gifts, the Angel Tree Program reflects the Safford Police Department’s commitment to community service and building meaningful relationships with the people it serves. The initiative brings together law enforcement, local businesses, residents, and volunteers in a shared effort to support families during what can be a particularly challenging time of year.
