THATCHER — The grades are in for the 2025-26 school year and virtually every school in Graham and Greenlee counties earned an A or a B.
The Arizona State Board of Education released the letter grades for public and charter schools across the state, and just three schools earned less than a B grade, though none are failing.
No district earned all As, but both Morenci and Duncan came close. Morenci High School and Metcalf Elementary earned A grades while Fairbanks Middle School earned a B. Duncan High School earned an A while Duncan Elementary was awarded a B.
Both Thatcher and Pima has one A and two B schools, while Safford had two As and four Bs.
Fort Thomas had two Bs, one C and a D.
According to the State Board of Education, the grades are based on “year to year student academic growth, proficiency on English language arts, math and science, the proficiency and academic growth of English language learners, indicators that an elementary student is ready for success in high school and that high school students are ready to succeed in a career or higher education, and high school graduation rates.”
Fort Thomas spent the most, at $27,527 per pupil in 2025, per the Arizona Auditor General’s Office. Next was Duncan at $16,637, Morenci at $15,328, Thatcher at $11,852 and Safford at $11,405.
Pima was listed at $39,981 per pupil in 2025, but that included $27,479 in land and building expenses, which included construction of the new high school.
