WASHINGTON, D.C. — The challenger for the Arizona Dist. 6 seat in Congress representing Greenlee County, and parts of Graham and Cochise counties, both outraised and outspent the incumbent in the lead-up to Election Day.
According to Federal Elections Commission filings released Oct. 15, Democrat JoAnna Mendoza raised $3.41 million for her campaign in the third quarter of this year, more than 2.5 times the $1.3 million raised by incumbent Republican Juan Ciscomani.
Mendoza also spent more; spending $5.14 million to Ciscomani’s spending of $4.51 million.
Mendoza also has the edge in fund-raising for the entire election cycle — $10.76 million to Ciscomani’s $7.52 million — and has outspent Ciscomani $9.23 million to $7.14 million.
For the final month of the race, Mendoza has more cash on hand, with $1.53 million available, compared to $926,833 held by Ciscomani. Neither reports debt owed.
It’s a different story in Arizona Dist. 2, which includes the San Carlos Apache Reservation.
Incumbent Republican Eli Crane reports raising $2.01 million in the third quarter, while Democratic challenger Jonathan Nez reports raising $1.82 million.
Spending in the quarter was virtually even, with Nez spending $2.54 million and Crane spending $2.39 million.
Crane has a decided edge in cash-on-hand, holding $2.36 million compared to $1.19 million held by Nez.
Spending by political action committees in any race is not included in the reports.
