Graham County Sheriff’s Office responds to 21 incidents
The Graham County Sheriff’s Office responded to 21 reported incidents between Aug. 27 and the early morning hours of Aug. 28, according to the agency’s daily incident report.
Among the more notable calls was a vehicle crash involving a backhoe and a truck early Thursday morning near milepost 306 on U.S. 70. An automatic crash notification prompted the response, followed by a report of a semi versus truck. Deputies later determined the vehicles involved were a backhoe and truck, and both drivers reported they were not injured. DPS, ADOT and Bylas EMS were notified, and the roadway was eventually reported open in both directions.
A brush fire was reported Thursday morning along U.S. 191 near the Thunderbird area. Deputies initially received a report of two or three brush fires, with one appearing controlled and another reportedly growing. Upon arrival, deputies found several piles of burning material that appeared contained and were not spreading significantly.
Deputies also investigated a reported domestic disturbance at an apartment on West 8th Street. A resident reported hearing aggressive banging on the adjoining apartment wall and was unsure what was happening inside. The call was subsequently classified as a domestic incident.
Two traffic stops resulted in speeding citations on U.S. 70. In one case, a driver was cited after being recorded at 70 mph in a 55-mph zone and was reportedly not carrying a driver’s license. In another stop near Pima, a driver was cited after being recorded at 72 mph in a 55-mph zone and reportedly admitted to not paying attention.
A 12-year-old student at a middle school in the Fort Thomas area was reported to have been found with a marijuana vape.
The Sheriff’s Office also handled several welfare and assistance calls, including a report of a man who may have suffered a seizure following a 911 hang-up. Deputies were unable to initially make contact with the caller but requested medical assistance.
Later Thursday evening, deputies responded to two separate animal-related calls. In one, several horses were reported walking toward a highway near Lebanon Road. In another, a young black cow was reported loose near Airport Road. Deputies attempted to determine the animals’ owners, but the report did not identify an owner for either animal.
Two juvenile-related calls were also reported. In one incident, several juveniles reportedly climbed a fence to swim in a pool where they were not authorized to be. In another, a juvenile who had reportedly run away was located and returned home safely.
