Graham County Sheriff’s Office responds to 24 incidents
The Graham County Sheriff’s Office responded to 24 reported incidents between Aug. 25 and the early morning hours of Aug. 26, according to the agency’s daily incident report.
One of the most significant calls was a structure fire shortly after midnight Wednesday near Mohave Street and Cluff Ranch Road. The initial report indicated a building was on fire, and deputies later reported that the structure was fully engulfed. The fire spread to a neighboring trailer, with multiple structures and vehicles threatened. Deputies also reported hearing propane tanks exploding and warned nearby residents to clear the area. Fire agencies from Safford and Thatcher were requested to assist.
Earlier Tuesday morning, deputies handled a series of 911 hang-up calls involving a child reportedly aboard a bus. The child called 911 multiple times while the bus traveled through the area, beginning near Rincon Canyon Road and later moving through portions of the Safford area. Dispatchers were unable to obtain the child’s name, and the caller repeatedly disconnected.
Deputies also responded to a medical emergency on Plateau Avenue after a woman reportedly fell onto concrete from standing height and suffered a head injury. The caller was described as frantic and unable to answer questions, with the woman reportedly screaming while breathing.
Several calls involved wanted persons, including a Safford call concerning an individual who needed to be taken into custody on a commitment order. Deputies also handled multiple requests to serve legal papers.
The Sheriff’s Office received two threatening-person reports during the afternoon. One occurred on Elementary School Road in Ft. Thomas, while another involved a man who told deputies his sister had threatened him. The siblings reportedly live together.
Other incidents included traffic stops, civil standbys, a welfare check, an unwanted-subject complaint and an agency assist for traffic control on U.S. 191.
