Sand and bags available to protect against flooding

GRAHAM COUNTY — With a chance of significant rainfall, the communities in Graham County have announced steps to help home and business owners protect their investments and their families.

City of Safford is making sand and sand bags available. Bags are available at the Public Works Office and sand at the Public Works Yard, both on Discovery Park Boulevard. There is a limit of five bags per household and everything must be picked up by 4 p.m.

Town of Thatcher is making sand and bags available to residents at the town’s Public Works Office, and sand available at the Public Works Yard, both on Reay Lane. There is a limit of 10 bags per household.

Town of Pima is making sand bags and sand available at the Town Yard on South 200 East. Limit of five bags per household, during normal working hours.

Graham County will have bags and sand available at the Graham County Fairgrounds, in the lot north of the Ag Building. There is a limit of 10 bags; however, there is no time limit on when bags and sand may be picked up.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Graham County on Thursday, July 16, from 2-9 p.m.
