SAN CARLOS — The White Tail fire on the San Carlos Apache Reservation has grown to 857 acres and is at 0-percent containment.

The fire was discovered Saturday, June 20, east of White Tail Springs, and was caused by lightning.

San Carlos Apache Forest Resources reports a hotshot crew has been assigned to fight the fire, along with an air tanker, Type 1 and Type helicopters and a very large air tanker (VLAT).

Due to the steep terrain, the plan is to contain the fire along the east and western edges.

Stage 2 fire restrictions are in place on the reservation, prohibiting charcoal and campfires, including in developed campgrounds.
