Man arrested on outstanding warrant after domestic disturbance

A man was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant after deputies responded to a domestic disturbance early May 22 at a residence south of Safford, according to the Graham County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched around 1:17 a.m. after a caller reported an assault involving an older and his daughter’s boyfriend. When deputies arrived, they found the older man sitting outside the home with significant facial injuries and bleeding from his nose and mouth. The man was treated at the scene before being transported to a local hospital.

Investigators said several people inside the home initially refused to answer the door while deputies attempted to contact them. During the investigation, authorities learned the daughter’s boyfriend had an active felony warrant out of Graham County Superior Court. Deputies secured the residence while a search warrant was obtained.

At approximately 5:15 a.m., deputies served the search warrant and entered the home. The fugitive was found hiding inside a bedroom closet and was taken into custody without further incident. He was booked into the Graham County Jail on the outstanding warrant, which included charges related to drug possession, unlawful flight and extreme DUI, according to the report.

The report states the older man suffered a broken nose, a fractured rib and additional chest injuries during the altercation. The incident remains under investigation.
