SAFFORD — The Safford City Council was unanimous in who the next city manager should be.
By a 7-0 vote Monday, the council voted to offer the job to Eric Bejarano.
Bejarano is currently the assistant city manager and has been working as interim city manager since former City Manager John Cassella was terminated without cause in December.
The council also moved to increase Bejarano’s salary from $168,000 per year — which was set when he assumed the duties of interim city manager — to $172,000 per year.
“It’s important to me to that we always treat people with respect, work toward solutions and focus on making a positive difference rather simply pointing out the problems,” Bejarano said. “We have work ahead of us, but I truly believe we can accomplish great things together. So let’s continue to get out, get involved and make the City of Safford and the Gila Valley great.”
The City Council directed the City Attorney and Human Resources director to negotiate a contract with Bejarano, and bring an agreement back to the council for final adoption at a future meeting.
