THATCHER — The Graham County Substance Abuse Coalition is giving the public a chance to help keep narcotics off the streets.

The 21st annual Dump the Drugs event will take place Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon, in the Home Depot parking lot.

“We host only one weekend a year for Dump the Drugs take back, and we partner with Thatcher Police Department. They have an incinerator now, so they can incinerate them right away,” said Kathy Grimes, executive director for the Graham County Substance Abuse Coalition.

Thatcher Police officers will accept both human and pet medications that are expired or no longer wanted.

In addition, those who attend will be able to visit with local law enforcement, view a Thatcher Fire engine and receive information from numerous community resource providers.

Graham County Substance Abuse Coalition is also a community distributor for naloxone, which is used to counteract opioid overdose. The coalition will have naloxone available for free for anyone who requests at the event.

Those who can’t attend can drop off their expired prescription medications for proper disposal any time in the boxes located at Safford, Thatcher and Pima Police stations, Graham County Sheriff’s Office, and Safeway and Walmart grocery stores.
