THATCHER — The Thatcher Town Council is back to full strength, as Carolina Gaethje took the oath of office and was seated on the council during Monday’s regular meeting.

Gaethje was appointed to fill the seat made vacant by the recent resignation of Shaffen Woods, who left due to a conflict of interest after accepting a position with the Thatcher Police Department.

Gaethje’s term runs through December 2028.

One of her first actions was to vote in the affirmative to direct the town manager to continue negotiations with Palmer and Johnson Family Dental about acquiring the final available space in the Thatcher Commercial Plaza. Palmer and Johnson Family Dental currently operates in Safford.

Construction continues on the new American Southwest Credit Union in the Thatcher Commercial Plaza on U.S. Highway 70 at 3rd Avenue, and Town Manager Heath Brown informed the council that Culver’s Restaurant has submitted preliminary plans and is planning to close on its parcel this week.
