TUCSON — Another Democratic challenger to incumbent U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani, R-Ariz., has dropped out of the race.

On his campaign’s social media Wednesday, immigration attorney Mo Goldman said he is suspending his campaign due to Homeland Security’s recent sweeps of Hispanics and other minority groups.

“Right now, the crush of demand for help from immigrants, refugees, Visa holders and even U.S. citizens is overwhelming,” Goldman said. “Every day another crisis arises in my office. That is why, in the best interest of the people I serve, I am withdrawing my name from consideration in the race for Arizona’s 6th Congressional District.”

In his announcement, he called on his supporters to throw their backing behind JoAnna Mendoza. Mendoza announced Thursday she also received the endorsement of U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., and his wife, former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.

Goldman is the second candidate to step away from the race. On July 22, Aiden Swallow announced she was leaving the race for Congress to instead run for state House in District 19.

The reaming field of challengers to Ciscomani include Democrats Mendoza, Johnathan Buma, Chris Donat and Samantha Severson; Green Party candidate Gary Swing; and independent Trevor Dickerson.

The nonpartisan Cook Political Report has the race a toss-up.
