Pursuit ends with suspect tackled by GCSO deputy

SAN JOSE — A man accused of theft of a chainsaw was booked into Graham County Jail on multiple charges.

Thatcher Police and other area law enforcement agencies were looking for the suspect in the theft of a chainsaw from Home Depot when, just after midnight on July 22, one of the license plate-reading Flock cameras spotted the suspect vehicle on Highway 70 in San Jose.

Graham County Sheriff’s deputies patrolled the area until crossing paths with the suspect vehicle. The deputy followed until backup arrived, then activated lights in an attempt to effect a traffic stop.

The suspect vehicle then took off at a high rate of speed, before stopping at a Memory Lane, just east of Church Street. The suspect then got out of the vehicle and reportedly tried to run away, but only got as far as 20 feet before being tackled to the ground by the deputy.

The man was booked into Graham County Jail on the theft charge, as well as unlawful flight from a pursuing law enforcement vehicle. He also had a warrant outstanding from Clifton Justice Court.
