SAFFORD — Faced with funding uncertainty due to federal cuts, Mt. Graham Safe House is turning to the public for help.
On its social media, the shelter for those escaping domestic and sexual abuse is asking for financial donations to help keep programs going.
“Due to recent federal funding cuts, we may have to reduce — or even pause — some of the vital services we offer to those who rely on us most,” shelter officials wrote. “These programs are more than just services — they are lifelines for individuals in our community with nowhere else to turn. And right now, we need your support to help keep them going.”
Janie Flippen, teen advocate for Mt. Graham Safe House, said in addition to monetary donations, there are additional ways to help.
“They can volunteer. If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer, please stop by. We have little forms you fill out, it’s really easy,” Flippen said. “You can donate; we’re always accepting any donations. Clients like things like pool passes, you know, things like treats that they’re not really able to get themselves.”
To date, nearly $25,000 has been raised, and cash donations qualify for the Arizona Tax Credit, which allows for a dollar-for-dollar credit against state taxes owed. Click here to donate.
