THATCHER — The end is in sight for the widening of 8th Street in Thatcher.
Town officials announced that final paving of the roadway will begin the week of July 7. Meanwhile, Eastern Arizona Railroad is working on completion of the crossing signal, which means the roadway could be open sometime in August.
“This project will improve a very dangerous road and will add bicycle and pedestrian facilities, allowing for safer enjoyment by more of our residents,” Town officials said in a prepared statement. “The Town’s contractor, WW Clyde, has been a great partner in this project. Thank you to all those who have been respectful of the contractor and the on-going road closures.”
The improvements include widening of 8th Street between 20th and 1st avenues, and addition of a turning lane, bike lanes, curbing and gutters.
The $4.7 million projected was supported by $4.5 million in state funding.
