Trump appoints Cochise Sheriff Dannels to Homeland Security Council

BISBEE — On his social media Tuesday, Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels announced his appointment to the Homeland Security Advisory Council.

President Trump appointed 22 people to the council, including former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, broadcaster Mark Levin and South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster, who will serve as the council’s chair.

The council was first created by President George W. Bush in 2002 and, according to the Department of Homeland Security’s website:

  • Provides organizationally independent advice and recommendations to the Secretary, including the creation and implementation of critical and actionable policies for the security of the homeland.
  • Conducts research and provides policy analysis and recommendations on a variety of security issues.
  • Evaluates the impact of security related public and private policies in an attempt to formulate prospective security policies

First meeting of the council is scheduled for July 2 in Washington, D.C.
