Drivers should expect delays traveling between Show Low and Springerville this summer

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to prepare for delays along US 60 between Show Low and Springerville in the White Mountains area this summer as two projects begin construction.

The first project will add passing lanes along 3 miles of US 60 between Little Mormon Lake Road and Bell Spring. Beginning Tuesday, June 3, drivers should expect the following restrictions to be in place Mondays through Thursdays from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

  • US 60 will be reduced to one lane only with alternating east- and westbound travel between Little Mormon Lake Road and Bell Spring (mileposts 345-348).
  • Drivers will be directed through the work zone by flaggers and a pilot car.
  • Drivers should plan for extra travel time, be prepared to make frequent stops and watch for construction workers and equipment while traveling through the area.
  • Restrictions will be lifted each day after work hours.
  • No work is planned for weekends or state holidays.

The project is scheduled to be completed by summer 2026 with a winter hiatus.

The other project will rehabilitate the pavement along 16 miles of US 60 between State Route 61 and Wildcat Creek. Shoulder restrictions are currently in place for the next few weeks as the contractor begins making drainage improvements.

Pavement work is scheduled to begin by early July and drivers should expect the following restrictions Mondays through Fridays from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

  • US 60 will be reduced to one lane only in 3-mile segments with alternating east- and westbound travel between SR 61 and Wildcat Creek (mileposts 353-369).
  • Drivers will be directed through the work zone by flaggers and a pilot car.
  • A 12-foot vehicle-width restriction will be in place.
  • Drivers need to be prepared to make frequent stops when approaching and driving through the work zone and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while the restrictions are in place.
  • Restrictions will be lifted each day after work hours.
  • No work is planned for weekends or state holidays.

The project is anticipated to be completed by the fall.
