SAFFORD — Third time’s a charm for the Gila Watershed Partnership.
The third monthly First Friday Social will take place Friday, from 9-11 a.m., at the GWP greenhouse on Eastern Arizona College’s Discovery Park Campus.
Attendees will have the chance to learn about GWP’s mission, and help get the greenhouse ready for the 2025 Spring Native Plant Sale, which starts April 6 online.
Jenna Ferris, native plant nursery manager for GWP, said the organization is going in two directions for its highlighted plants this sale. First are plenty of pomegranate trees, which use significantly less water than citrus, and are currently listed at a discounted price.
“The other thing we’re really try to focus on right now is our flowering plants,” Ferris said. “Everybody loves flowering plants, especially in the spring. That kind of seems to be what people are looking for to put into the ground, and we’ve got an entire row of really beautiful blooming plants right now.”
Click here to shop online and then pick up purchases when the nursery is open to the public on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Shoppers who aren’t able to visit the nursery on Fridays are encouraged to schedule an appointment on other days.
The nursery is not a retail store, but was founded to provide plants for the restoration activities of the Gila Watershed Partnership. This annual fund-raiser helps the nursery support all of its work in the community.
GWP’s mission is to “engage the community in improving the water quality and ecosystem condition of the Upper Gila Watershed through education and economic opportunity.”
In addition, the organization grows native plants for the watershed as well as for other nonprofit organizations.
