SAFFORD — There’s a change coming next year when it comes to the Dan Hinton Accommodation School.

At its most recent meeting, the Graham County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved intergovernmental agreements between the Graham County School Superintendent’s Office and three area school districts for the Graham County Special Services Consortium.

“Pima is not being presented today,” Graham County School Superintendent Donna McGaughey said. “They are keeping all of their special needs students under their roof beginning in August of this year.”

The three districts remaining in the Graham County Special Services Consortium are Thatcher, Fort Thomas and Bonita. The Safford Unified School district provides special education services in-house and to Solomon.

The consortium provides a self-contained educational environment at Dan Hinton School for students with physical and mental disability, as well as screenings and speech therapy services at the members’ schools.

Funding is provided by the member school districts — based on the number of students participating from each district — and the state Department of Education.
