World Baseball Classic Qualifier Brings Global Talent to Southern Arizona

Southern Arizona is set to host a major international baseball event as the World Baseball Classic (WBC) Qualifier comes to the Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium in Tucson from March 2 to March 6, 2025. This exciting tournament will feature elite teams from Colombia, Brazil, China, and Germany, all competing for two coveted spots in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Baseball fans in the region will have the unique opportunity to witness top-tier international competition right in their backyard.

Colombia, currently ranked 11th by the WBSC, is a strong contender heading into the tournament. After upsetting semifinalist Mexico in the 2023 WBC, Colombia narrowly lost to the United States in a nail-biting game. Brazil, ranked 24th, is eager to make its first WBC appearance since 2013. Known as a “sleeping giant” in international baseball, the team is determined to break through and fulfill its potential.

China, ranked 20th, brings a mix of experience and determination to the qualifier. China will fight to reclaim its place in the WBC after narrowly missing the mark in 2023. Germany, ranked 17th, is a team on the rise following a promising run in the European Baseball Championships.

Games will follow a round-robin format, with matchups scheduled at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily from March 2 to March 4. The top team from the pool will secure an automatic berth in the 2026 WBC, while the second and third-place teams will face off on March 6 for the final qualifying spot. Tickets start at just $19, making this a fantastic opportunity for fans to experience world-class baseball at an affordable price.
