Plenty of free fun and contests at this year’s Harvest Festival

SAFFORD — The schedule for this year’s Safford Harvest Festival has been released.

Taking place Saturday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., on the lawn in front of Safford City Hall, the event is family-friendly with a number of games and prizes for children. Including:

Safford Downtown Association kid’s pumpkin carving on the east lawn, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Judging will take place at 12:30 p.m.

Gila Valley Veterans’ Services kid’s cornhole tournament, from 10:30-11:30 a.m., in the GVVS booth. Open to ages 6 to 12, with 12 teams maximum.

All-ages cornhole tournament on the east lawn, noon to 2 p.m.

Child and Family Resources kid’s costume contest on the stage, from noon to 1 p.m. Age groups are: 1-4, 5-7, 8-10, 11-13 and 14-17.

Boys and Girls Club of the Gila Valley kid’s pumpkin rolling contest on the west lawn, from 2-2:30 p.m. Age groups are: 5-7, 8-10,11-13 and 14-17. Twelve contestants maximum per age group.

There will also be performances by Gila Valley All-Star Cheer, from 10:45-11:15 a.m. on the west lawn; Extreme Martial Arts, from 11:15-11:45 a.m., on the west lawn; and Gila Valley Chorale, from 1:15-1:45 p.m., on the stage.

All activities are free.

Harvest Festival is sponsored by the City of Safford, United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties, Freeport-McMoRan, Graham County, the Boys and Girls Club of the Gila Valley, Gila Valley Veterans’ Service, Child and Family Resources, Thriftee Supermarket and Double R Communications.
