SAFFORD — The United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties made almost $2 million available to nonprofit organizations, educators and local communities in the third wave of grants this year.

The local United Way announced $1.9 million in Cycle 3 grant recipients Monday, with five recipients accounting for $1 million of that total:

  • $200,000 to Bonita School for transportation
  • $200,000 to Clifton Police for an upgrade to its records management system
  • $200,000 to Greenlee County for ambulance service
  • $200,000 to Greenlee County for a new project at the Fairgrounds
  • $200,000 to Pima Schools for the stadium at the new high school

“Currently we’re at just shy of $3.1 million in funding this year so far, going out into the community” Denise Benton, United Way executive director said last week before the Cycle 3 recipients were announced. “Those donor dollars are absolutely making their way out into the community to support the nonprofits and the other organizations who are doing amazing things.”
