CLIFTON — A mountain lion has been spotted roaming the residential areas of Clifton at night.

Two residents posted to their social media accounts security camera footage of the lion, the first on July 17 and the second July 29.

In an e-mail to Gila Valley Central, Michael Colaianni, Public Affairs director for Arizona Game and Fish, said, “Mountain lion sightings are not uncommon across the state of Arizona or in the Clifton area, particularly during our hottest months of the year when lions are searching for alternative water sources.

“If wildlife is simply in a backyard and not causing any problems, there is no need to report it,” he continued. “However, we encourage residents to always keep their distance, and the public can report wildlife sightings or issues to our 24-hour dispatch center at 623-236-7201.”
