SAFFORD — The list of those seeking appointment to the Safford City Council has been released to the public, as has the method in which a person will be selected.
During Monday’s regular meeting, the City Council will rank the 11 applicants from 1 to 11, with 1 being their top choice and 11 their least preferred. The three with the lowest scores will be announced during the meeting.
At the March 25 regular meeting, the City Council will move into closed executive session to interview the top three applicants. After the interviews, the council will move back into open public meeting and again rank the applicants from 1 to 3, with 1 the top choice.
The person with the lowest score will be selected as the new council person. In the event of a tie score, Mayor Pro Tempore Richard Ortega will conduct a coin flip to determine the appointment.
The 11 who submitted application for appointment are:
● Enrique Aguilar
● Dusti Brantner
● Mark Allen Cavanaugh Jr.
● Brenda Chacon
● Luke Chavez
● Alma Flores
● Robert Haynes
● Lee Patterson
● Corina Pino-Reyes
● Kathryn Sticklin
● Carol Telles
The seat became vacant following the death of Mayor Jason Kouts on Jan. 24.
