Make the best gingerbread house or color City Hall at Merry Main Street

SAFFORD — There will be plenty of traditional favorites when The 22nd annual Merry Main Street and Tree Lighting ceremony takes place on Safford’s Main Street on Friday. Nov. 24, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Right after the tree is in front of Safford City Hall is lighted, children will have their choice of activities, including participating in the coloring contest sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club of the Gila Valley.

Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Brittany Dean said she’s looking forward to seeing the children’s creativity when they color in a drawing of City Hall.

“Maybe add something to it, you know, make it your own,” Dean said.

Coloring contest winners will be announced right before the start of the annual Gila Valley Light Parade on Safford’s Main Street on Dec. 9.

Children will also have the chance to build their own gingerbread houses, sponsored by Realtor Jacque Attaway.

“I’m hoping to see a lot of creative entertainment in the making of the gingerbread houses,” Attaway said.

The coloring contest will take place in Main Street Café, while making gingerbread houses will take place in the Health Department Annex (the old Stockman’s Bank building).

Other activities that evening will include playing in the snow on City Hall lawn, a carousel, train, cookie decorating and more. All activities and contests are free.
