SAFFORD — The towns of Pima and Thatcher, City of Safford and Graham County are teaming for Community Pride Days this month, and the City of Safford is taking an extra step this year, providing help in one neighborhood.

“We’ll drop a Dumpster in a neighborhood that . . . feels like they need the dumpster the most, and we’ll allow them to dump their trash in it for free as part of our Code Enforcement program, and then we’ll haul the trash off,” said Matthew Hoshal, assistant to the Safford City Manager.

The dumpsters are already in place, at the intersection of 3rd Street and Central Avenue, just west of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Large items, such as old appliances and tires, will also be accepted, in designated areas near the Dumpsters.

During Community Pride Days, which will run Oct. 19-21, residents are entitled to one free load of residential trash at the landfill. No hazardous materials will be accepted.

Proof of residency is required and loads that are not covered and secured are subject to a $10 charge.

In addition to the free load as part of Community Pride Days, Safford residents are entitled to one free load of residential trash at the landfill each month. Proof of Safford utility service is required.
