PHOENIX — The number of jobless claims in Graham and Greenlee counties remained flat from January to February, keeping Greenlee as the county in the state with the lowest unemployment.
That’s according to data released Thursday by the Arizona Commerce Authority.
The jobless rate in Greenlee County remains at 2.8 percent in February, while Graham County’s unemployment rate stayed at 3 percent. That gives Graham County the second-lowest unemployment rate in Arizona.
Nearby Cochise County dropped one-tenth of a percentage point, from 3.9 percent in January to 3.8 percent in February.
Statewide, the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate fell one-tenth of a point in February to 3.7 percent; remaining well below the same time last year, when Arizona’s unemployment rate was at 6 percent. The national rate stayed flat at 3.6 percent.
Only one job sector reported a loss in February, information, which lost 800 jobs.
Reporting job gains in February were: education and health services (up 5,800 jobs); professional and business services (up 5,200 jobs); government (up 4,900 jobs); leisure and hospitality (up 4,400 jobs); construction (up 2,800 jobs); financial activities (up 1,300 jobs); manufacturing (up 1,000 jobs); and trade, transportation and utilities (up 700 jobs).
Natural resources and mining remained flat in February, reporting neither gains nor losses.
