$75,000 reward offered in death of San Carlos Apache teen

SAN CARLOS — A reward is now being offered in the death of a Native American girl whose body was found by the side of a road last month.

“Our San Carlos Council is offering a reward of $75,000 for information leading to the arrest of whomever committed this horrible act,” said San Carlos Apache Tribal Chairman Terry Rambler.

Rambler made his comments at March 15 rally at Apache Gold Resort and Casino for family of the slain girl, 14-year-old Emily Pike.

He added that May has been designated as Missing or Murdered Members Month. And the Tribal Council has plans to draw attention to the issue of missing and murdered indigenous people.

“Our San Carlos Council will be meeting with the governor, our state legislators and our sister tribes so that we can all unite and work together to improve the group home standards, for those homes off-reservation where we send our children to,” Rambler said.

Pike’s remains were first discovered Feb. 14, on the side of Forest Service Road 355, off U.S. Highway 60 near milepost 277. The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation, as the body was found off the reservation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Gila County Sheriff’s Office at 928-200-2352.
