With the regular season wrapping up last week, local hoops squads are now preparing for the postseason. The 2A East Region chose to play a region tournament this week to crown its region champion.
The girls started their tournament last night. Each game was played at the higher seed. #1 Bisbee received a first round bye in the tournament. Their only loss this year was to Thatcher.
#2 Thatcher topped #7 Willcox 64-23, #3 Pima beat #6 Tombstone 55-17 and #4 Benson got by #5 Morenci 36-31.
The girls second round will take place Wednesday with games starting at 6pm. #3 Pima will be at #2 Thatcher and #4 Benson will travel to #1 Bisbee.
The 2A East boys tournament will tip off tonight (Tuesday) at 6pm with the high seeds hosting. #1 Pima will not play until Thursday with a bye tonight. They finished the regular season undefeated in the 2A East.
#2 Thatcher will host #7 Tombstone, #3 Bisbee will take on #6 Willcox and #5 Benson will travel to #4 Morenci. The winners will play on Thursday in the semifinals.
