THATCHER — Eastern Arizona Hispanic Heritage Corporation presented the Eastern Arizona College Foundation with $12,000 for scholarships Tuesday.

“Every one of the dollars is going to full-ride scholarships, except the smaller ones — the $500 and $700,” said Lupe Munoz

The funds were raised at the eighth annual Hispanic Heritage Dinner and Show last month, as well as donations from individuals and contributions from Graham County’s three communities. The funds from the city and towns — $2,700 from Safford, $700 from Pima and $500 from Thatcher — are to be distributed to residents of those respective communities who are attending EAC.

Currently  four students — Dakota Ybarra, Cailin Larson, Deziree Juarez and Aubrey Pace — are attending EAC with funds raised from last year’s Hispanic Heritage event.

Eastern Arizona College continues to offer one of the lowest-cost educational opportunities in the state. EAC President Todd Haynie said donations from organizations like Eastern Arizona Hispanic Heritage Corporation ensure that students are able to graduate without debt.

“All of these scholarship dollars go to helping every student receive an education here at EAC,” Haynie said. “So they’re all very much appreciated.”

Students who would like to apply for this and other donor-funded scholarships at EAC are encouraged to complete the scholarship application in their Gila Hank accounts. Priority awards will be given to those who complete their applications by Dec. 31.
