Donald “Donnie” Joe Oaks

Donald “Donnie” Joe Oaks, 66, of Pima, passed away April 21, 2017, at the Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center with his wife Marcel by his side.

Donnie was born in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas, on March 29, 1951, to Carmen and Helen Oaks. Family moved to Arizona when Donnie was 15 months old. He graduated from Safford High School.

Donnie joined the Army National Guard in July 1971 to 1977. He was a member of the carpenters union. Donnie worked at Fort Grant, he did boat mechanic work on the side and he went to work for the City of Safford in 1984, retiring in 2002.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends and spending time with his grandchildren.

Donnie is survived by: his wife of 41 years, Marcel Sue Oaks; his children, Jacqueline Sunshine (Scott) Galvin, Joshua Joe (Guadalupe) Oaks and Christopher Carmen (Kristen) Oaks; ten grandchildren; six sisters and one brother.

He was preceded in death by: his father and mother, Carmen and Helen Oaks.

Funeral services for Donnie will be conducted Thursday, April 27, 2017, at 10:00 a.m., at the Pima L.D.S. Stake Center by Bishop Eldon Woodall of the Pima 3rd Ward. Concluding services will follow in the Pima Cemetery with military honors being conferred by the Gila Valley Veterans Honor Guard.

Family will receive friends Thursday morning, April 27, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m., in the Pima L.D.S. Stake Center Relief Society Room.

Arrangements are entrusted to Vining Funeral Home.
