Top fire at 3,292 acres

SAN CARLOS — The Top fire has grown to the largest wildfire on the San Carlos Apache Reservation this season to date.

The fire, which was discovered June 8 and is believed to be human caused, is at 3,292 acres, and is 25 percent contained.

Crews are working to secure the perimeter while hotshot crews burn out pockets in the interior.

Assigned to the fire are: six type-6 engines, three type-3 engines, two air craft, San Carlos one Type-2 IA (SWFF), one fire module, one fire use crew, one water tender and one dozer.

The fire is located east of San Carlos, near Cutter Road north of U.S. Highway 70.

It’s the fourth wildfire on the reservation since May. The 1,778-acre Toyo fire was discovered May 10, the 128-acre Gopher fire was discovered May 18, and the 1,597-acre Rocky fire was discovered May 23.
