Those under 45 seeing greatest number of COVID-19 cases in Graham County

SAFFORD — The number of coronavirus cases in the Gila Valley continues to grow, with 23 new cases announced Wednesday.

Graham County Health Department reported that 11 of the cases involve residents of the San Carlos Apache reservation, five each in Safford and Thatcher and two in Pima.

Graham County’s total is at 1,185, with 348 of the cases considered active and 28 deaths.

The younger age groups continue to see the greatest number of cases. The 20-44 age group has almost half the county’s total number of cases at 502, while those 20 and younger account for 260 cases.

The other age groups remain comparable to each other, with 169 cases in those 65 and older, 134 cases in those 45-54, and 119 cases in those 55-64.

Graham County’s positivity rate is 14.6 percent.

Greenlee County has now gone two days without a new case.

Greenlee County Health Department reports the total is holding at 103 cases, with 41 active and two deaths.

Greenlee County’s positivity rate is 17.6 percent.
