Theft of a knife lands man in jail

SAFFORD — A man with a blood-alcohol content three times the legal limit was taken into custody for theft.

Safford Police officers were dispatched to Sun Pumps, when a man who was trying to go to work said he found another man inside his vehicle.

The suspect claimed he was just looking for some cigarettes and then started to walk away while making verbal threats to the victim.

The victim checked his vehicle and found a knife had been taken and contacted law enforcement.

Officers said the suspect claimed the victim allowed him to look through the vehicle, but Officers said they smelled a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the victim and administered a field test which showed a blood-alcohol content of .248.

The knife was confiscated, and the suspect taken into custody on charges of theft and disorderly conduct.
