BYLAS — San Carlos Apache Tribe’s Forestry Division is reporting that, despite the recent high winds, prescribed burns in the Bylas area are going well.

Burns planned for the lower agricultural field were suspended May 1 and 2 due to the winds, but burning resumed May 3 and moved to the Gila Wash area Wednesday, May 4.

Weather permitting, burns are scheduled throughout the month and will encompass about 1,500 acres. The goal is to remove potential fuel for wildfires.

Air quality conditions will vary, due to heavy smoke anticipated in the mornings and early evenings.
