SAFFORD — Safford Police Chief Brian Avila said Wednesday there is nothing new to report in last Sunday’s homicide.

“The person of interest in the case is still outstanding.  The victim (is) 31-year-old Adam Avalos, of Safford, and (the) person of interest is 19-year-old Chezerae Arrellin Jr., of Safford,” Avila said in an e-mail.

Avalos’ body was discovered by Safford Police officers in the parking area of a residence on the 300 block of South 8th Avenue Sunday, at 9:37 p.m., after multiple witnesses reported that someone had been shot.

Graham County Sheriff’s deputies, and Thatcher and Pima Police officers assisted Safford Police at the scene and in the search for Arrellin.
