Passers-by help, but can’t save life of a man found on Airport Road

GRAHAM COUNTY — A number of good Samaritans did their best, but were unable to save the life of a man found on the side of a road.

Graham County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to area of Dry Lake and Airport roads, where they found one man performing chest compressions on the victim. A registered nurse riding with a deputy also assisted until Life Line and Ponderosa ambulances arrived.

The man told deputies he routinely saw the victim walking in the area as he drove by, and when he saw him on the ground on Tuesday at about 6:15 a.m., he stopped to help. He said the victim was moving but his pulse was becoming weaker. Once he could no longer find a pulse, he started CPR.

Another man said when he came upon the scene, he also assisted with CPR.

The victim was transported to Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center. There, the victim’s wife informed hospital personnel the victim had a do not resuscitate order in place, and the victim was pronounced deceased.

Deputies did not find any trauma on the victim, other than to the back of his head and his chest from the compressions. However, the victim’s wife told deputies that the victim suffered seizures.
