SAFFORD — Despite Summer being the time of greatest need for blood in the United States, there’s only one local blood drive scheduled in the Gila Valley in June.

A Red Cross blood drive will take place Friday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Safford.

There are two blood drives scheduled in July: July 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at VFW Post 10385 in Thatcher; and July 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the GFWC Woman’s Club of Safford.

Reserving a time to donate is recommended. Go to Schedule a Blood, Platelet or Plasma Donation | American Red Cross (redcrossblood.org).

About 29,000 units of red blood cells, 6,500 units of plasma and 5,000 units of platelets are needed every day in the United States.
