GRAHAM COUNTY — Multiple law enforcement agencies found themselves setting up a perimeter around the home of a suspect who turned out not to be the suspect, accused of threatening two men with a firearm that turned out not to be a firearm.
Graham County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Octotilla Street, when two men claimed a neighbor of their threatened to shoot them with a either a 9mm or .40 caliber pistol.
They identified the man as a sex offender, per the sex offender registry.
Deputies and Safford Police set up a perimeter around the home identified by the two men, and attempted to make contact with the resident. However, Graham County Probation officers arrived and confirmed the identified sex offender was not in the residence, but at his apartment in Safford.
Deputies were eventually able to make contact with the resident, who said he believed the two men disconnected security cameras to his home. The resident said he confronted the men and carried with him a pellet gun, first in his hand and then in his pocket.
Deputies confirmed the item was a pellet gun and took it into custody as evidence. Deputies informed both parties the report would be sent to the County Attorney’s Office for review and possible charges. Meanwhile, the men started to converse, said they worked out their differences, shook hands and went to their respective homes.
