Creek, Charlie fires burning on the San Carlos Apache Reservation

BYLAS — A new wildfire has started in Graham County.

The Charlie fire, about 9-miles west of Bylas, was discovered at about 1 p.m. Monday.

The fire is currently at 70 acres and cause is believed to be a lightning strike. Assigned to battle the blaze is one large air tanker, one very large air tanker, two single engine tankers and two engines.

It’s the second wildfire on the San Carlos Apache Reservation over the last four days.

The Creek fire was discovered June 28, near Beaver Springs in Peridot.

It’s at 48 acres with about 10 percent containment. Cause of ignition is unknown at this time.

Resources assigned to the Creek fire include four engines, one water tender and one type-3 helicopter.
