Southwest Gas volunteers to help Our Neighbor’s Farm and Pantry

SAFFORD — Southwest Gas employees will be pitching in this weekend to help those who help those in need.

Twenty members from Southwest Gas’ BLUE (Building Lives Up Everywhere) volunteer team will be at Our Neighbor’s Farm and Pantry Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., helping replace the farm’s drip irrigation system, build fencing for a chicken coop, weed the garden, install a concrete slab for a lending library, and sort cans in the pantry.

In a prepared release, Southwest gas said, “By focusing on schools, parks, and other areas and in partnerships with local nonprofit partners, these events will help improve both environmental and social sustainability across the communities” serviced by the natural gas provider.

Our Neighbor’s Farm and Pantry also announced it is seeking to hire seven teens, between the ages of 15 and 18, for the STEAM Youth Corp.

The four-week program, starting June 5, will see the teens work about 16 hours per week, leaning all the components of the garden, including planting, harvesting and weed eradication.
