SAFFORD — Thatcher isn’t the only community looking at updating its procedures for the municipal cemetery.
The Safford City Council unanimously approved an update to the city’s policies and procedures regarding the cemetery.
“The main change being that current city employees, employee dependents and active city firemen who want interment at the city cemetery will receive one space in the event of loss of life,” said Public Works Director Lance Henrie.
The free space is limited to current employees, spouse and dependent children. Former and retired employees are not eligible for the free plot.
For the public, purchase price of a casket space is $465, while a cremation space is $240. Only evergreen trees or native desert plants may be planted at any gravesite.
