SAFFORD — The Safford City Council is being asked to decide if it’s the properr time to return to normal.

At the next regular meeting, the council will be asked to approve a declaration rescinding a previous declaration of emergency and, instead, follow the governor’s new executive orders when it comes to re-opening the economy.

On March 17, the council declared a state of emergency as it related to the COVID-19 pandemic, in accordance with the governor’s stay-at-home executive order.

Last week, Gov. Doug Ducey introduced his new “Stay Healthy, Return Smarter, Return Stronger” policy that promotes physical distancing, while allowing businesses to gradually and open.

The council will be asked to vote on the new resolution rescinding the declaration of a state of emergency at the meeting Tuesday, May 26, at 6 p.m. Those wishing to view the council meeting can attend or participate via Zoom online conferencing.
