Independence Day celebration schedule for the Gila Valley

Gila Valley Central wishes all a happy Independence Day and encourages those who can to attend and take part in the various celebrations around the Gila Valley.

PIMA

6-6:30 a.m Flag raising and ceremony: .
6:30 a.m. Pancake Breakfast: Veterans and active service personnel eat free – others pay a fee of $3 per person.
Located at the Heritage Park in Pima between the Pima Fire Station and Pima Library
Sponsored by Eastern Arizona Museum with the aid of the Pima Fire Department and library personnel.

THATCHER

5:30 a.m. Fireman wake up call
6 a.m People Parade. Family and neighborhood floats are encouraged. Meet at the Eastern Arizona College Fine Art Center at the west parking lot to line up. The parade route starts on Stadium Avenue to Reay Lane, and then south to the church parking lot. No water balloons and no squirt guns allowed.
7 a.m Flag raising and patriotic program
8 a.m. Watermelon bust at the Thatcher Park. Those living south of the highway are encouraged to bring two cantaloupes. Individuals living north of the highway are encouraged to bring watermelon.
8 a.m. Fireman water fun.
9 a.m. Free Swim at the Eastern Arizona College Pool

SAFFORD
10 a.m. Parade on Safford Main Street
GFWC Woman’s Club of Safford “Just Ducky Race” After the parade, ducks are dumped into the canal behind the Safford City Graham-County Library and race to 14th Avenue in Safford.
Fireworks are scheduled to go off at dark at the Graham County Fairgrounds.
