The Thatcher High School football team is one of 3 finalists for the Team of the Year award at the Arizona Sports Award show on June 9th. The Eagles capped off the 2018 season with their 3rd straight state championship and a perfect 14-0 record. The Eagles dominated and outscored their opponents 564-100, and average of 40-7 each game.
Thatcher will be up against the Alchesay girls basketball team that won the 2A State Championship by defeating Scottsdale Christian 40-36 during Snowpocolips 2018 in Prescott. They finished the season on a 7 game winning streak and a 26-7 overall record.
The last team nominated is the Horizon Huskies baseball team. The Huskies captured the 5A State Championship in a 16 inning marathon over Nogales 7-4. Horizon finished the regular season with a 26-7 overall record.
The azcentral Sports Awards recognizes and honors the top athletic accomplishments in Arizona High School Sports. This event is hosted by azcentral and will take place June 9, 2019 at ASU Gammage. The show features various awards, contests and a special appearance from Arizona Cardinals running back, David Johnson. The red carpet will open at 6 p.m. and the awards show begins promptly at 7 p.m. We ask that attendees take their seats by 6:45 p.m. No food will be served during the show, however soft drinks, water, and snacks will be available for purchase. All ticket sales are final.
