Safford’s Kristin Cocke records 1,000th career strikeout in 8-2 win over Florence

They don’t call her K. Cocke for no reason. Safford senior pitcher Kristin Cocke recorded her 1,000th career strikeout Friday night in an 8-2 win over Florence. She also hammered 2 home runs to help her cause.

Cocke becomes only the 2nd Arizona High School pitcher to record at least 1000 strikeouts since the pitching circle has been moved to 43 feet. The first was Horizon’s Tamara Statman in 2015.

“Being part of this history tonight is something special to us coaching staff and team. We all had happy tears,” said Coach Ornales.” To see this young lady do something like this is amazing. No one deserves this more than her.”

Cocke is  signed to play softball at Western New Mexico University in Silver City. She is not only a leader on the softball field but in the classroom as well. She currently holds a 4.0 GPA.

Safford is 4-4 on the season and will be back in action March 19th at home against Benson.
