Ramon Madrid, Jr

Ramon Madrid, Jr., or “Jap” as he was affectionately known, entered into rest Sunday afternoon, June 5, 2016. He was 61. He was born August 25, 1954, in Morenci, to Ramon and Mary Louise Madrid.

Jap grew up in Morenci, where he attended school and graduated from Morenci High School in 1972, and immediately went to work for the Phelps Dodge Corp.

Jap was well known for his outgoing, sense of humor, with a heart of gold, who always had a story to tell for a good laugh or two. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan and a collector of Jack Daniels memorabilia.  Ramon dearly loved children and enjoyed growing out his white beard so he could be “Santa Clause” during the Christmas season in the Gila Valley.  He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and most of all spending time with his grandchildren, family and many friends.

Jap is survived by: his son, Raymond Patrick (Jenise) Madrid; his father, Ramon Madrid, Sr.; his sister, Bonnie (Fred) Byrd; his brother, Charlie Madrid; his grandchildren, Matthew, Shayla, Annalycia and Samario; his nephew, C.J. Madrid; and nieces, Michelle Gosnell, Misty Hinton, Nikki Castaneda and Ashley Solan.

Jap was preceded in death by: his mother, Mary Louise Madrid.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Madrid was celebrated Friday morning June 10, 2016 at 10:00 a.m., at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church by Rev. Robert Rodriguez.

A Rosary was prayed Friday morning, at 9:00 a.m., St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church by Deacon Carl Vessels.
