Michelle “Chelle” Bencomo passed away early Tuesday morning, September 15, 2015, at her residence in Safford. She was 60.
Chelle was born May 5, 1955, in Morenci, Arizona, to Curtis and Starr Walden. She graduated from Morenci High School, the class of 1973. Chelle would then attend the Grand Canyon University right after high school. Following her schooling she would then go to work for the Phelps Dodge Mining Corporation, in the Safety Department.
Chelle would meet and later marry Tommy Bencomo. They were married on October 24, 1987. Chelle and Tommy lived in Morenci until 2009, when they retired and moved to Safford. Chelle enjoyed spending time with her family, going to the river to fish and is well known for always helping others. She will be greatly missed.
Chelle is survived by: her husband, Tommy Bencomo, Sr.; her mother, Starr Walden; her two sisters, Carla Walden and Cheri LaRiviere; her children, Evan Walden, Tommy Bencomo, Jr. and Anna, Rhonda Bencomo and Rick Lopez and Richard and Nicole Bencomo; her thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Chelle was preceded in death by: her father, Curtis Walden.
A Celebration of Chelle’s Life will be conducted Saturday, September 19, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., at Vining Funeral Home’s “Chapel of the Valley.”
