Jerry McEuen

Jerry McEuen passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017, in Escondido, California, after a brief battle with Pneumonia. He was 84 years old.

Jerry was born on April 14, 1932, in Safford, Arizona, to J.N. Porter McEuen and Arizona Pollock.

He was preceded in death by: his wife of 54 years, Doris McEuen; his brothers, Buddy, Bake and J.N.; and his sisters, Hatty Fay and Sybil.

He is survived by: daughter, Kim and Emery Hale of Safford, Arizona; son, Kevin and Karen McEuen of San Diego, California; son, Mark McEuen of Safford, Arizona; sister, Betty Hatch of Federal Way, Washington; sister, Joy Harris of Snowflake, Arizona; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jerry was a lifelong educator, he served as Superintendent of Schools for the Douglas School District, the Round Valley School District and the Continental School District. Jerry came out of retirement to sign on as Director for the Dan Hinton School in Pima until he was 75. Jerry was also a life member of the Elks club, and served as President of the Green Valley Kiwanis club. He enjoyed summer trips to Greer, Arizona, and made frequent stops to the casino to play poker.

A Celebration of Jerry’s Life will be conducted Saturday, March 4, 2017, at 1 p.m., at the Thatcher Church Street LDS Chapel by Bishop Mike McEuen of the Thatcher Eighth Ward. Concluding services will follow in the Safford Cemetery in Safford, Arizona.
