Jack Lynn Brinkley

Jack Lynn Brinkley, 77, passed away at his home in Safford on August 15, 2016. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Jack was born July 5, 1939, in Conway, Ark., to Buster John Brinkley and Nora Hendrickson. Jack started to work at a young age of 17 at the Old Morenci Bowling Alley, setting up the pins by hand. He then, at the age of 20, joined the United States Army in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1965. In 1961, he married Kay Sanders, and together they raised their four children and made their home in Morenci. Jack was employed by Phelps Dodge as an electrician. He retired from Phelps Dodge in November 2001. Jack had married Jacqueline, and together they made their home in Safford.

Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved to spend time outdoors. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge for 48 years and a member of Safford American Legion Post 32 for 32 years.

Jack is preceded in death by: both of his parents; his sister, Pat; and brother, Ed.

Jack is survived by: his wife, Jacqueline; brothers, Joe Brinkley and David Brinkley; his children, Terry Brinkley, of Duncan, Cindy Brinkley, of Safford, Brian (Sylvia) Brinkley, of Safford, and Shanna Brinkley, of Safford. Jack had 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be conducted Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at Vining Funeral Home’s “Chapel of the Valley,” with military honors being conferred by the Gila Valley Veterans’ Honor Guard.

Family will receive friends Tuesday morning, August 23, 2016, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., also at the Vining Funeral Home. Jack’s final resting place will be in Safford.
